Is a picture really worth 1000 words?

The Ten Three has set out to challenge that assumption, using three different types of posts, all with one photo and exactly 1,000 words:

The Open: A personal photo accompanied with a personal essay.

The Turn: A staff writer will be given a photo that they have never seen and must then write 1,000 words. It can be any style of writing, on any topic, as long as the writer believes their essay captures the essence of the photo they were given.

The Flip: We turn the phrase on its head by allowing a writer to compose their essay first. Then that essay is given to a photographer who must try to capture the story in a single shot.

A preview of each week’s posts will give you a look at what’s ahead, and we plan to add supplemental posts and features to the site soon.

We hope you enjoy the hard work of these talented young writers and photographers. Stay connected by liking or subscribing to us on Facebook and by following us on Twitter.
